Awareness the greatest agent for change
Kerryn Powell, speaks with Courtney Lynch, someone she has never actually met in person, but a facebook, peeked Kerryn's curiosity to reach out and start a conversation to learn more.
Courtney lives in Nyirripi, a remote Indigenous community located 500km north west of Alice Springs.
You will hear about the day to day life of a teacher in such a remote area, the value of the relationships within the community and how you can help.
Recently Nyirripi School opened its op shop with an aim to benefit the community, school and students. The op shop is open one afternoon a week and provides students with valuable work experience as well as integrated numeracy and literacy skills. It provides an opportunity for parent and community engagement with the school and provides affordable clothing, bedding and homewares without families having to undertake a 10 hour round trip to the nearest kmart thus impacting school attendance. All the money made from the op shop is spent on school projects that the students and staff decide together such as equipment for sports teams, painting the school and bush trips.
The Op shop seeks donations, such as :-
Women's clothing (especially size 16+), Men's clothing , Baby to young adult clothing , Shoes ,Socks and underwear , Towels, sheets, blankets and doonas , Toys, Homewares, pots, pans, and cutlery.
Donations can be sent to:
