How to keep teams connected while working from home
Managing your teams virtual interaction to break the silos
Virtual interaction has helped individuals and teams stay connected and businesses operating.
As helpful as digital connection is it is imperfect.
Digital connection can lack:
spontaneity
free flowing conversation
mentoring in the moment
ideation and problem solving.
and, it is often absent of the socialization, so important in person-to-person connection.
Digital interaction is often timebound, agenda driven and beige.
Hybrid workplaces look to be the future, and there needs to be a mix of face to face interactions, combined with work from home to keep teams connected and engaged.
How to transition and reconnect your teams
If this describes your situation, it may be time to focus on how to transition. Is it time to really focus and work towards how to reconnect teams. As Warren Howard from Howardco Business and HR Solutions says “ Working from home can be isolating!! But it doesn’t have to be. Connectedness is key to remote working” .
Developing an empathetic workforce where people connect, has proven to contribute to increased motivation, productivity, and lower turnover. Investing time in creating team engagement and building a strong, positive workplace culture, and also reflects on improved customer experience, key for any successful business.
Starting meaningful conversations
For 9 years, I have been running business networking events and have designed formats and resources that assist individuals to start meaningful conversations. To build “know to like to trust”, conversations are essential.
Currently disconnected team members need opportunity to re connect beyond the “meeting agenda”. Sharing and problem solving become a natural part of an engaged workplace.
The “magic” is providing a safe place for conversations to start and flourish, while having some fun. Conversations and games help everyone learn more on a deeper and fun level. Even the most introverted participants find conversations can move from “awkward to awesome” , when we design a session that uses the YTM Conversation Starter cards and games.
Team reconnection, whether face to face or online, needs a creative approach. Over the past 20 months, I have designed ice breaker activities and tools to help people connect and these will be useful for teams needing to even re build productive relationships.
Let’s have a conversation and we can create an interaction that suits your needs.
